Mid-Term Review and VKI Lecture Series

Mid-Term Review and VKI Lecture Series

The representative of the European Commission,  an External Scientific Expert and EC Innovation Expert reviewed the progress of the project during the Mid Term Review meeting held on the 26th of October 2017 at the premises of the von Karman Institute (VKI) in Brussels.

The feedback from the EC was positive refereeing to the network being very coherent and well-coordinated. The PO commented that SSEMID hired excellent high skilled fellows and the individual presentations were very good. The fact that all fellows cooperate in WP related to industrial applications of stability and sensitivity analysis (WP4) was considered an excellent point and a great demonstration of the team work.

The meeting was combined with a network wide event - the lecture series (LS) closely connected to the project´s thematic priorities and tilted “Introduction to Stability and Transition Analysis Methods – SSEMID” (23 October 2017 to 25 October 2017).

The VKI LS are organized 8 to 12 times a year and consist of one-week Lecture Series on specialized topics in the field of aerodynamics, fluid mechanics and heat transfer with application to aeronautics, space, turbomachinery, the environment and industrial fluid dynamics. These courses have gained over the years world wide recognition for their high quality which is the result of a careful choice of subjects of current interest and lecturers known for their excellency in that field and willing to co-operate in building up well-structured courses.

The events attract a large number of external audience including professionals from the industrial world and university graduates in the fluid dynamics field.

The directors of this LS are SSEMID principal researchers, Prof. Eusebio Valero from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and Dr. Fabio Pinna of the von Karman Institute
