Henrique Raposo reaches out to local school students
In May 2017, Henrique Raposo (ESR12 from VKI) visited a local school in his hometown, Cercal do Alentejo, Portugal, to share his experience in science and engineering with secondary school students.
He talked about career choices in scientific fields and how this can influence the future career prospects. In an hour-long session, the students learnt how computing can be used in engineering. Henrique gave them basic notions of programming and, in very basic terms, some examples of how this can be used to solve the Navier-Stokes equations in the context of a flow around a wing. This finally lead Henrique to introduce the students to his research topic as an interesting example, showing how computer science can be used to predict the flow turbulence transition point on a wing. The last part of the session was dedicated to share some informal comments with the students. Henrique answered questions about his reasons for choosing to become an aerospace engineer and what circumstances lead him to work within SSeMID project.
